Mernda’s Green Transformation
Mernda’s Green Transformation
As World Environment Day approaches, we are shining a spotlight on the outstanding sustainability efforts at Mernda Village in Victoria. Our residents and village team have shown incredible dedication to protecting our planet through various impactful and fun projects.
E-Waste Recycling
Mernda Village has teamed up with the local council to provide free e-waste skips. Over the past three years, the village has ethically disposed ofroughly 27 cubic metres of e-waste, keeping harmful materials out of landfills.
Bottle Recycling with Doreen Scouts
Our Resident Committee has partnered with the Doreen Scouts for a fantastic bottle recycling program. Residents dispose of bottles and cans in designated bins and the Scouts collect them for a 10-cent refund. With all proceeds supporting the local Scouts' activities, giving back to the community.
Battery Recycling
Old batteries lying around? No worries! Mernda Village staff have organised a battery recycling box for residents. Once full, our team takes the batteries to a designated recycling drop-off. This program has been a hit, with the box filling up quickly each year. It’s a small step that makes a huge difference!
Resident Community Veggie Garden
Our community veggie garden, established during the village’s original build, has flourished under the care of our green-thumbed residents. Thie garden provides fresh produce and reduces food waste, cuts down on packaging, and is a small but effective step in lowering transport emissions.
The collective efforts of both Mernda residents and staff and their ongoing commitment to sustainability is refreshing. As we celebrate World Environment Day, we invite everyone to join us in making a difference through small but impactful actions.
Together, we can create a greener, healthier future!
