Recognising Volunteers that live at Ridgecrest
Ridgecrest Retirement Village is celebrating National Volunteer Week, a time to honour and thank the incredible residents who generously volunteer their time to help others. The community's spirit of giving and dedication to service is truly inspiring, and we are immensely grateful for the positive impact our volunteers have on the lives of many.
To highlight some of our wonderful volunteers, we asked residents to share their stories of volunteering. Here are a few inspiring examples:
Jeanette Morris: Volunteer for Disabilities and Catholic Care Music
Jeanette Morris is a dedicated volunteer who has been working with people with disabilities for over 30 years. She volunteers with Sharing Places and Catholic Care Disabilities, providing music programs and support for mental health. Jeanette's tireless work has earned her an Order of Australia Medal, recognizing her significant contributions to the community. She finds joy in her volunteering roles and values the connections she has made with those she helps.
Mal and Marge Grimley: Lifelong Volunteers for Seniors and their Community
Although Mal and Marge Grimley are nearing retirement from volunteering, their contributions to Snowy Hydro Care (now South Care), the Belconnen Senior Citizens Club, and Floriade have left a lasting legacy. They have supported countless activities, from school visits and BBQ fundraisers to organizing entertainment and bus trips. Their dedication has been a cornerstone of the community, and their efforts continue to be appreciated by all who have benefitted from their hard work.
Peta Moore: Voice for the Print Impaired at Radio 1RPH
Peta Moore volunteers at Radio 1RPH, where she helps "Turn Print into Sound" for the print impaired. Over the past two and a half years, Peta has grown from reading live news programs to presenting live-to-air shows multiple times a week. She enjoys the work immensely, spending anywhere from 4 to 20 hours a week at the station. For Peta, volunteering at Radio 1RPH is not just about staying busy in retirement—it's about connecting with people and making a difference.
We also want to acknowledge the many other residents who volunteer within the village itself. Whether you're part of the Executive Committee, the Social Club, managing the library, helping with the gardens, or supporting events and neighbours, your efforts are deeply valued. We couldn't do what we do here without the help we receive from our volunteers!
A heartfelt thank you to all our volunteers at Ridgecrest. Your dedication and generosity make our community a better place for everyone.
