‘Topping-Out’ of The Cambridge
‘Topping-Out’ of The Cambridge
Levande has marked a significant construction milestone at The Cambridge, with a traditional tree ceremony celebrating the building’s ‘topping-out’ – the completion of its external structure.
Rising 28 storeys, The Cambridge is now officially the tallest retirement village in New South Wales. A crowd of Levande executives, future residents, community members, and project partners gathered on the rooftop to witness a tree lifted into place – a nod to ancient Scandinavian tradition symbolising growth and prosperity, and a tribute to Levande’s Nordic roots.
Levande’s Chief Executive Officer, Kevin McCoy, said The Cambridge would be a truly intergenerational development. “There’s a K-6 primary school on the broader site, which we have rebuilt as part of the project, to which students will return at the start of Term 2. With a church and retail outlets also nearby, the result will be a vibrant precinct, where residents can enjoy all the benefits of an inner-city lifestyle.”
Set to open to residents in Spring 2025, The Cambridge will ultimately offer 158 independent living apartments. Its high-rise design means residents will enjoy access to a suite of premium amenities including an exclusive clubhouse and bar, alfresco lounge with gourmet BBQ facilities and rooftop entertainment space. Other amenities include a fitness centre, heated swimming pool, games room with billiards, luxury Gold Class-style cinema, library, hair salon and even a vegetable garden and workshed.
In addition to providing outstanding independent living options, six floors of the Cambridge have been set aside for a proposed residential aged care facility.
Construction was led by Richard Crookes Constructions (RCC), market leaders in the retirement living sector. “The Cambridge reflects our commitment to delivering exceptional accommodation and amenities for residents and community to enjoy now, and in the future”, said Grant D’Arcy, RCC General Manager Sydney and Major Projects.
The topping-out event is part of a broader expansion for Levande’s national footprint, which currently has a $3 billion development pipeline. Planning is underway at three new development sites in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, and two more on the Bellarine Peninsula, southwest of Melbourne. Coupled with the rebuild and expansion of existing sites in Sydney and Melbourne, these developments will collectively deliver nearly 1,700 new homes for older Australians.
