A Taste of Generations: The Walnut Grove Cookbook Project

Walnut Grove Book Club and High School Students Cook Up a Community Treasure.

In the heart of Walnut Grove village, an idea was born at a book club meeting that would soon stir up excitement and creativity among its members. "How about we write a cookbook?" someone proposed, and the response was an enthusiastic chorus of "Yes!" Determined to make this culinary dream a reality, the members set out to compile a collection of their favorite recipes, one savory and one sweet contribution from each member.

However, the prospect of typing and formatting all these cherished recipes seemed like a daunting task, until Nancy had a brilliant idea. She suggested enlisting the help of a local high school, Ryenella East College, where Grace Mitchell, one of the club members' granddaughter, taught. Grace's year 11 class eagerly embraced the challenge, and the cookbook project began to take shape as a beautiful intergenerational community endeavor. With the students' technical skills and artistic talents, the Walnut Grove Cookbook came to life, exceeding all expectations. The Book Club members and Village Management were truly thrilled with the quality of work, and they extended a heartfelt thank-you to the talented year 11 students whose dedication and skills made this delicious dream a reality. This project not only resulted in a delightful cookbook but also fostered connections between generations, enriching the vibrant spirit of the Walnut Grove community.

If you'd like to purchase the cookbook, please reach out to the Walnut Grove Book Club.
